lsm_l_msiei function

MSIEI (landscape level)

MSIEI (landscape level)

Modified Simpson's evenness index (Diversity metric)

lsm_l_msiei(landscape, directions = 8)

Arguments

  • landscape: A categorical raster object: SpatRaster; Raster* Layer, Stack, Brick; stars or a list of SpatRasters.
  • directions: The number of directions in which patches should be connected: 4 (rook's case) or 8 (queen's case).

Returns

tibble

Details

MSIEi=lni=1mPi2lnm MSIEi = \frac{- \ln \sum \limits_{i = 1}^{m} P_{i}^{2}} {\ln m}

where PiP_{i} is the landscape area proportion of class i and mm is the number of classes.

MSIEI is a 'Diversity metric'.

Because the metric is based on distances or areas please make sure your data is valid using check_landscape.

Units

None

Range

0 <= MSIEI < 1

Behaviour

MSIEI = 0 when only one patch is present and approaches MSIEI = 1 as the proportional distribution of patches becomes more even

Examples

landscape <- terra::rast(landscapemetrics::landscape) lsm_l_msiei(landscape)
